Materuni Waterfalls Day Trip

A day trip to Materuni is an amazing opportunity to explore one of Tanzania’s most beautiful and scenic areas, located near the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Materuni is a small village in the Moshi region, known for its lush landscapes, coffee plantations, waterfalls, and rich Chaga culture.

Visit the Materuni Waterfalls
Time: 1-1.5 hours
The highlight of Materuni is its beautiful waterfall, which is about 80 meters tall. It’s a short hike from the village to the waterfall, and you’ll pass through lush rainforests with exotic plants and birdlife. Be prepared for a bit of adventure, including some uphill walking, but it’s well worth it when you reach the stunning falls.
Tour the Coffee Plantation
Time: 1 hour
After the waterfall, enjoy a guided tour of the Materuni coffee farm. The Chaga people of the area are known for their coffee, and the tour will give you a chance to see the coffee production process, from picking the beans to roasting them. You’ll also have the chance to sample some freshly brewed coffee, which is a treat.

Materuni is home to the Chaga people, and you can learn more about their culture, traditions, and history. Some tours also offer the chance to experience traditional Chaga dancing and music, which is a lively and fun way to immerse yourself in the local culture.

Return to Moshi
Time: Afternoon (around 3:00 PM)
After a fulfilling day in Materuni, head back to Moshi in the afternoon, arriving around 4:00-5:00 PM.
